Happeh New Yeeaah!

Tuesday, January 4th, 2011

Well it’s officially 2011. Wow last year has been a … huge one. EFFING HUGE in fact. A big, big, big year of HUGE firsts and some lasts as well.

In Feburary I started back at my last ever year of uni, and also celebrated my 5th anniversary with my lovely boy (not a first or a last!)

In March I opened my etsy.com store and made my first sale in June. Not long after that I was featured in a blog (Cute Stew) for the first time and had my first giveaway at the same place.

In June I had a painting in an exhibition for the first time (Drawgasmic) and will (when the book arrives) see my art in a book for the first time. I’m planning on submitting again this year! Yay!

I’ve even got published for the first time this year, in Blanket Magazine and the Thirteen Month Project (twice!).  Much like my Drawgasmic book, my subscription to the Thirteen Month Project is still coming in the mail, so thought I have been published, I have yet to see any of my art in a book in the flesh (paper).

I submitted art to the Indie Fixx  Feed Your Soul - Free Art Project, and will be submitting a downloadble Valentine’s Day card soon!

I’ve painted four commissioned portraits this year, and have another commission for the new year (and it’s a biggun!) I have yet to post about my most recent one, but I will soon!

As the year drew to a close I had to practically abandon my art and blog and YOU dear reader to focus on my (cough) career!  I still feel so strange even saying that out loud.

I graduated from my Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Education in Dec with Second Class honours, and (before I had even graduated) got my dream job at a little Anglican College teaching Prep – Year 9 music to boys and girls. I start on the 17th and am pretty much beside myself with excitement.

As for this year, I have some resolutions (many of which are the same from last year!) Some of them are already underway.

Carla Thursday’s
 Resolutions
for 2011

1. Eat better. For pete’s sake EAT BETTER. Well, I eat pretty well, but I need to eat more raw vegetables, more fruit and less carbs (I am a sucker for bread and pasta). Also, more water, more green tea, less cofee, less alchol and more vitamins (particularly vitamin B).
2. Get up early and walk every day. This is partnered with going to bed early too. I honestly, don’t know why I don’t do this, when I know that I feel amazing afterwards.
3. Meditate. At the beginning and end of each day. This is a habit that is yet to stick, it’s a tricky one, but my mind makes more sense when I do.
4. Get organised. I am starting a new job and a new life this year, and my life is an organisational nightmare!
5. Get your art out there. This I have already started doing, I have posted ads to Gala Darling

and on The Curious Pug! Click here to read about Alycia’s sponsers!

I also (DUN DUN DUN) mailed two of my prints to Frankie Magazine today.

Frankie is quite possibly my favourite magazine, and the most delicious publication ever. Just the thought that someone at Frankie will see my paintings fills me with delight!

I hope that this year will be equally huge and as exciting as last year,  for me and all of you.

Christmas is coming!

Friday, December 24th, 2010

Christmas really is here I got totally spoilt at my boyfriend’s house on the weekend, because won’t be with them on Christmas. And when I say spoilt, I mean REALLY spoilt.

I thought I would show you this absolutely devine necklace I received.

It’s from The Yellow Owl Workshop and I feel like it really represents the kind of person I am.

What are you hoping to get for Christmas tomorrow?

Relax to the max

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

Well, I know that I said I was on hiatus. But I’ve found a moment of stress free time in my stressful life.

Yes, it’s been hectic in the life of Carla. No time to make any new art, or take any photos, it’s pretty stifling.

But, here I am in my moment.

I just got out of the shower.

That’s right (it’s ok I’m not nakey or anything), for me, the best way to relax and find a moment to think is to have a bubble bath or a hot shower. I wash my hair, lather myself up with moisturizing body wash and exfoliate the crap out of myself and it feels like all my stresses and worries are rushing down the sink. I get out, and cover myself in cocoa butter and moisturizer and then MAN to I feel pampered.

So. As you can see, I’m feeling pretty good about myself right now. I am almost finished the third last assignment I will ever write in my life. AND I’ve mailed away one of two applications that will make me a registered teacher in my state. Exciting no? Life decisions being made!

Anyway. I’m going to leave you with this. Think about it!

How do you relax when your brain is practically exploding?

Well, I think I might have to call a temporary blog hiatus! I am SO incredibly busy with uni assignments and applying for teaching jobs, that I won’t have any time to paint, let alone make blog posts.

So my darlings. Until we meet again (it’ll be soon don’t worry), I’ll leave you with this to think about.

I think this shall be my motto.

Love and freckles!

I had a lovely day today. Slept late, and then had breakfast and pimped the blog of my friend Ryan, who is a writer.

I created a header which is a green typewriter, designed the buttons and got him started on his portfolio.

You can see the design or read his wicked skills here!

Win! Win!

Then we both went to a dog party with Stanley! The dog that we often see walking turned ten, and she invited all her doggy friends and their owners to the park across the road from our house. They had peanut butter cupcakes for the dogs and vanilla slice for us! It was so lovely sitting in the sun talking to everyone and their dogs!

I’m going to finish editing a painting soon and post it up here, hopefully tomorrow I promise! :D

Now I’m off to a 21st in the city, where I shall dance and probably drink cocktails! The tomorrow Ryan and I are going to get pancakes!!

Best weekend ever?

Yes?

If I was you…

Monday, July 12th, 2010

I got an email today from the lovely Sandra from If I Was You project, which is an amazing artist narative.

One illustrator a week will be invited to create a response to the previously
featured artist in illustrating their answer to the question:
‘If I was you, I …

So basically, one artist or illustrator responds to the painting through painting and answers the question.

So for example if Sandra started and Tom was next:
Tom’s illustration would be titled ‘If I was Sandra, I …’
and the next person’s ‘If I was Tom I…’

Anyway. She sent me the email to tell me that my portfolio had been accepted! So in a few months I’ll be responding to someone’s painting! Exciting no?

It’s a really awesome blog, so you should all check it out!

I also heard that the Drawgasmic exhibition was an awesome success! My painting hasn’t sold just yet but I hope to get an email any day now! :P Being positive is the key no?

Happy Saturday!

Saturday, July 10th, 2010

Hello darlings! I’m back! (I know you missed me).

Actually I’ve been back for a whole week, but I’ve been SO busy doing lots of things! I had a lovely time at the beach, sleeping in and relaxing. Sadly, I did NO artworks at ALL. NONE. But I did take lots of photos but we’ll all have to wait until I’m paid before I can get them developed. :(

I have some news!

The fabulous Drawgasmic Art Exhibition - The Art, Illustration, and Design Compendium Exhibition is on TONIGHT! (Saturday) I’ve been waiting weeks and weeks, so if you live in or near St Louis, USA you should head to  2720 Cherokee Street St. Louis MO 63118, 4 blocks west of Jefferson to see my painting Tuesday.

My newest painting and submission into the Drawgasmic exhibition.

You can visit my drawgasmic page here and if you are interested, you can buy the original painting  over the interwebs or in person at the exhibition. She is only $75 which is a real bargain.

They are also producing a limited edition coffee table book of all the work in the exhibition. “The full color book will exist as an exhaustive collection of the best artists, illustrators and designers working today!”

Are we excited? I’M excited beyond belief. If you’re near by, head on down and check out lots of amazing art and some great bands!

I’ll post some new photos and hopefully some new art soon. I have my best friend Ryan up from Melbourne all week, so we’re going to have a zine making day! So hopefully in the next few weeks, my zine “The girl with pencils instead of hands” will be printed real soon! I’ll definitely have copies for sale on my etsy store. :D

I hope your weekend is as delightful as mine has been so far! Tonight I’m having a crazy-sleepover-blankets-drinks-dvd party. Which will be wicked fun!

Love and art!

Holiday!

Saturday, June 26th, 2010

Well darlings I’m going away for a week! In fact I’m leaving any minute!

So, I’ll be back soon with lots of photos and new paintings hopefully!

LOVE!
