Hipstamatic

Monday, July 12th, 2010

I know I said you would have to wait until I’ve gotten my film processed to see any photos. But I’ve just bought a totally rad iPhone app called Hipstamatic which makes my iPhone photos look awesome and analog.

I know. How yuppie of me, but I just couldn’t resist. Here are some of the photos I’ve been taking.

This one is my favourite.

Welcome to my bookshelf!

My mac keyboard! Hipstered!

This is the label on my Zine box. (Duh).

This is my bestie Ryan, who is up from Melbourne and staying with me. He’s a writer, and this week we’re going to make a colaborative zine! :D

Today my two besties and I went to see Ron Muecks exhibition at the Gallery of Modern art. I’ll post some photos of that tomorrow!!

I also have started two new paintings and have a commision on the way! So more delightful treats soon.

I hope your Monday was deliriously amazing. Love!

Purchases and a crafty renovation

Thursday, June 10th, 2010

Well it’s no secret that I’m a bit of an impulse shopper. :P

I have been deliberating these amazing hand-maid Gorman boots. But they were $150 and at the moment I can’t really justify spending that money.

HOWEVER.

I DID BUY these beauties by I <3 Billy. They’re called Morgan!

Aren’t they just DELICIOUS!? Personally I think they go quite nicely with my teal tights. :D

I also thought I’d share this hat with you that I bought the other day. Which makes me seriously happy.

Yes I need a haircut I know. No need to rub it in.

I also wandered through Typo with the intention of buying some book ends to keep my zines in, but there weren’t any nice on, and a sketch book. Surprise, surprise. They were so cheap I walked out with three.

This one. Which is little, and can fit in my pocket. I love the mushrooms! I love that you can see my wall and my posters, my desk and the dream catcher my friends little sister made for me in the background of this photo.

And these two. One is A4 and the other is A3.

Now, that grey splodge on the top is where the sticker tore the paper. It happened to both of them, and I AM SO ANNOYED that that happened! It happens all the time, and I am upset that some retailers can be SO GODDAMN STUPID.

ANYWAY. Being the resourceful gal I am. This is what I did about it.

I took this beautiful wrapping paper that I bought from the same store last week.

Isn’t it lovely? I whipped out my scissors and cut out a nice bit. I need to invest in an X-acto knife and a cutting board, to make these kinds of jobs easier.

I mixed some PVA and water together. And glued it down over the rip. :) Clever no?

I then put a layer of PVA all over the whole book cover to sort of lacquer it, so it wouldn’t peal.

A bit nicer than a plain grey sketch book no? Now THIS book is crying out to be filled. I’m going to do the small one the same.

I also got these pens, to help with the filling.

I get to pick up my film tomorrow! One from my Holga and one from my Canon! Excitement!

I hope your Friday is delightful and delicious!

Love from,

YEOW DYMO LABELER!

Critique Divine

Friday, April 23rd, 2010

A few days ago I received a lovely critique on my photo Bogainvillea II that I have up on my deviantart website.

The writer Monique, is from Poland and obviously has some difficulty with the english language. But I wanted to post it here because it is so beautiful and heartfelt.

Very magic photograph. He is making think of the childhood and the good play. When entire days were spent in couples and playgrounds from morning till night. Longing won. Probably a child is lying dormant in each of us. Is is reminding me oneself also “Enchanted garden”, but it probably through the perspective of flowers.

Holga always grants peculiar character them. A lack isn’t disturbing sharpnesses. Spring atmosphere is floating in the air. A bit of misty colours of green and skies, bright red.

The frame perfectly is composed. Balance between the space and objects. I will be going back with pleasure to this photo.

I find this so strangely poetic and beautiful, I thought you might like to share in it too.

Happy almost-weekend-sleep-in-tomorrow!

Black and White

Saturday, April 3rd, 2010

Well here are some of my newest holga photos. They’re all black and white which was a challenge! I found after shooting my first roll, that I was thinking only in black and white. Which is … weird for me. The first roll turned out really … weirdly! At my Bris Holga Meeting today (which was fab by the way, will discuss in a sec) we thought maybe the film had gotten wet. Notice the first few pictures, the water-like marks at the top of all the photos. Also, something must have gotten on my lens, because in the bottom right corner, there is a little star! On every photo!! Enlarge them to see. :D

I love that you can see my umbrella in this shot.

Honestly no idea what went on with this photo! There were quite a few shots that were nothing but that blurry static. Strange no?

This one is definitely one of the best on the roll. I think this one and the one before have a real spooky feel.

When I saw this one, I found myself thinking… “I don’t remember taking a photo of a tree.” I only just realised, it’s not a tree at all. This is a twig that is displayed in some glass bottles in my hallway! I’d forgotten about taking this photo. Pretty neat effect though I think.

I have this real fascination with fences, trains and cranes. Anything… sort of urban and ugly. I think they make for good photos though.

Double exposure.

This one may be my favourite photo yet. Do you have a favourite? I SO love reading your comments.

Anyway, I apologise about this post being so image heavy, but I’m finding the more I use my camera, the more I’m getting used to using film, so the percentage of good photos on a roll around going up.

Hopefully soon I’ll get to a point where every photo on the roll is good. :)

Anyway, the first meeting for the Brisbane Holga Society was a quiet affair at The Edge in the Queensland State Library. Hopefully with some advertising it will become a thriving community, where people can share their photos and ideas!

Well, now that I’ve posted, posted, posted. It’s time for me to re-heat some pizza.

Classy I know.
